Burt's Bees enters protein shake arena
Branching out from the personal care aisle to the nutrition aisle is a "natural extension" for Burt's Bees, according to General Manager Jim Geikie. Its new protein shake mixes are made with five sources of plant-based protein (pea, rice, flaxseed, sunflower seed and oat) as well as fruits and vegetables, and comes in three varieties: Daily Protein, Protein+Gut Health and Protein+Healthy Radiance. No more 'vegetarian schnitzel'? German minister seeks ban on meat names for plant-based foods
As plant-based foods gain favor, it's not just vegan mayo and milks that are under attack for calling themselves mayo and milk, respectively, and it's not just in the U.S. Germany's agriculture minister, as well as a pair of lobbying groups, say that meatless alternatives should not be able to be marketed with the same names as meat dishes, because they think it's misleading to consumers. Mobile grocery store sees interest grow after 1 year in St. Louis food deserts
A nonprofit created to bring fresh food to neighborhoods with limited access ended its first year in the red, but St. Louis Metro Market's cofounder says there are plenty of signs that it will soon be sustainable. Texas winegrowers fear new herbicides will wipe out industry
Growers fear that a recently approved herbicide made by Monsanto to be used on genetically modified cotton crops could wipe out the region's wine industry.
