International Symposium on Natural Products Also Announced

Lacey, WA - December 6, 2006: Unigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.- part of the ECONET global group of health and natural product companies with operations in the United States, South Korea, Russia, China and Mexico – recently hosted its 9th Annual Science Summit at its US corporate headquarters in Lacey, Washington.

Unigen, a leading research and development company of proprietary, biologically active plant-derived ingredients, focuses on discovery and research of novel ingredients for the supplement, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and functional food industries. Its US and Korea research facilities, including genomic and proteomic capabilities, comprise over 100,000 sq. ft. of research labs employing over 65 scientists.

Chief Scientific Officers and executives from affiliate companies of ECONET, all Unigen scientists, as well as lab directors and managers from Unigen Korea, along with Scientific and Strategic Advisory Board members and core business partners participated in the semi-annual three-day event.

The goals of the Science Summit are to exchange information and report progress in technology platform development; report progress in pipeline product discovery and development; address business development, market trends, and global regulatory issues; assess processes in development, production, quality control and quality assurance; report on human clinical evaluation results; and address intellectual properties and patent protection issues.

Unigen USA reported on consolidation of its R&D resources and expertise to focus on metabolic disorders, such as obesity, Syndrome X, diabetes and deficient microcirculation. It also reported on discovery and development of natural cosmeceutical ingredients that show inhibition of tyrosinase, reduction of histamine release, demonstrate potent inhibition of Propionibaterium acnes and have anti-wrinkle effects.

Unigen Korea reported further development of its GenoActive™ platform, a genomic information-based efficacy screening & validation platform technology, to discovery therapeutic targets and established high throughput screening of PhytoLogic natural product library for regulating mitochondrial dysfunction. The novel natural compounds developed out of the research can be utilized for managing chronic degenerative diseases (CDD), such as memory loss, fatigue and cardiovascular conditions.

International Symposium on Natural Products Also Announced
Univera also presented a recap of the 1st International Symposium on Applications of Natural Products (held November 14th in Seoul, Korea). This symposium, sponsored by Unigen and ECONET, hosted top natural product research scientists from USA, Japan and S. Korea to discuss opportunities, challenges and trends in natural product research and applications to stimulate R&D activities and collaborations between academia and industry on a global basis.

Unigen’s 10th Annual Global Summit will be held in Chungnam, South Korea -- Spring 2007.
