New survey shows U.S. adults are feeling the pressure, especially parents. A growing number of healthy product companies are rolling out new offerings targeted to stressed-out Americans.
Are you a parent? If so, you can likely relate to the findings from a new American Psychological Association survey released Nov. 9. The study of U.S. adults found that 32 percent of all parents rate their stress levels at 8 or higher on a 10-point scale. But it’s not just people with kids who are feeling the pressure. According to the survey, 51 percent of all U.S. adults are living with “moderate” stress (which is a stress level of four to seven on a 10-point scale).
The top causes of Americans’ stress are money, work, the economy and increasingly job stability. Parents are having a particularly difficult time managing their stress, the survey found. Although 69 percent of the parents surveyed said that managing stress was “extremely” or “very important,” only 32 percent said they had done an “excellent” or “very good job” at keeping their stress under control.
Not surprisingly, a growing number of healthy product companies are rolling out new offerings targeted to stressed-out Americans. For example, Rainbow Light sells a 3-Way Stress Management System product containing a mix of vitamins, minerals and herbs, including eleuthero, schisandra, valerian and California poppy. Gaia Herbs’ No. 1 herbal product is its Adrena Health supplement, which is designed to support the body’s adaptogenic responses to stress.
