'Best For The World' B Corps includes 40 natural products companies

After skipping 2020's Best For The World awards due to the COVID-19 pandemic, B Labs made some adjustment to its annual program, which this year honors the top 5% of Certified B Corporations across the globe in five impact areas: community, customers, environment, governance and workers.

Because the Certified B Corp community has grown, B Lab decided to honor the top 5% of the companies, rather than the top 10% as it did in the past.

You'll also notice that B Lab dropped the Best For The World Overall category. On its website, B Lab says, "We have recognized that it is difficult to contrast overall scores in a truly impartial way. Thus, in 2021 we are aiming to recognize exceptional performance specifically in the impact areas assessed through the initial evaluation."

In addition, B Lab eliminated the Changemaker category previously included in these awards. The organization had received feedback that the category was difficult to comprehend.

Because B Lab considers companies' size when it certifies an applicant as a B Corp, it grouped the companies by size for this honor: zero employees; one to nine employees; 10-49 employees; 50-249 employees; and 250 or more employees.

For this listing, New Hope Network includes only companies based in the United States. No natural products companies that we could identify were included in the Customers or Governance sectors.

Two American companies—Dr. Bronner's and Patagonia Works—were named as Best For The World in the Community and Environment sectors. Because both companies had higher scores in the Community sector, they are listed there with their Environmental scores included.
