Almost every night, my husband and I enjoy a glass of wine with dinner. Last night it was Evolution from Sokol Blosser winery, an eco-friendly operation in Oregon's Dundee Hills. Dave and I visited this winery last summer on our tour of the Oregon wine country, and Alison Sokol Blosser gave us a tour; she's the personable and knowledgable daughter of the winery's founders and now co-president, with her brother (I love family businesses). Since its inception in 1971, Sokol Blosser has adhered to sustainable viticulture practices; they're USDA-organic certified and have the first LEED-certified cellar in the country, a very cool (literally) place with a grass-sod roof. But the main thing is: Their wine rocks. Evolution is an excellent, easygoing white wine, good with so many dinner dishes (one good choice: Halibut Tacos with Papaya-Cucumber Salsa). And we just got an email that the latest Evolution batch is selling for $12 a bottle (case price) -- a steal, if you ask me.
