CEO Brandon Barnholt and Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan cut the ribbon on the 270,000-square-foot KeHE distribution center in Aurora, Colorado.
The LEED Gold-certified building initially opens primarily to serve Sprouts Farmers Market locations and will ramp up to distribute to additional customers in a matter of months.
The new distribution center in Aurora, Colorado, stocks 15,000 SKUs, with capacity for 20,000.
This packing area is where employees pack boxes made up of less-than-case pack orders. At its peak, 12 million boxes will pass in and out of the new distribution center.
The KeHE distribution center employs 100 and could grow to 200.
The shipping and receiving area has 52 doors. Fifteen drivers, 13 tractors and 18 trailers are housed at the Aurora distribution center. The facility will serve 832,000 delivery miles on 3,016 routes per year.
The Aurora distribution center has room to expand cold storage. An additional 5 acres of land makes it possible, too, for KeHE to add on to the overall facility.
The Certified B Corporation donates 10 percent of net profits every year to those less fortunate. To launch giving in its new community, KeHE employees and open house attendees filled 1,000 food boxes.
