BOULDER, Colo. (Aug. 2, 2012) – Dual Lifetime Achievement Awards were bestowed by Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ) to Herbalife’s Gerry Holly and Metagenic’s Jeffrey Bland, Ph.D., at the 15th annual NBJ Summit in Dana Point, Calif., on July 26.
“It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to honor two tremendous leaders in our industry,” says Tom Aarts, co-founder of NBJ Summit and member of NBJ’s Editorial Advisory Board for Lifetime Achievement Awards. “Both Gerry and Dr. Bland are a tremendous force for the industry and very deserving of our highest praise.”
Behind every industry is that one person that makes the engine turn and that person is Holly. For more than 50 years he has been the brain behind nearly every aspect of manufacturing supplements. And although he has worked at major companies including Sandoz, Pharmavite, Rexall and Herbalife, his expertise in manufacturing has benefited a vast majority of companies throughout the industry.
Responsible for coining the term “functional medicine,” Bland will forever be recognized as one of the key figures in the nutrition industry who opened the eyes and minds of healthcare professionals to the power of good nutrition and functional medicine. A former head of the Department of Nutritional Analysis at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine and former professor of biochemistry at the University of Puget Sound, Bland is an internationally recognized leader in the nutritional medicine field with expertise as a nutritional biochemist.
