Riding the HPP, or cold-pressed, juice trend, Mother’s Market has its own-label organic, cold-pressed Electric Lemonade and Aloha Goddess juice. At $8.99 a quart bottle, it contains lemon, ginger, blue majik algae, water and raw agave.
So, apparently pudding is a thing, and Mother’s Market has gone private label on this category as well with a grab-and-go pudding in a variety of flavors: multi-grain rice pudding, quinoa blueberry pudding and Madagascar vanilla vegan pudding. They sell at a unit price of $8.49 a pound and cost between $4.75 and $5.75 a container.
Nothing’s like homemade soup, and Mother’s Market offers a take-home own-label organic chicken noodle soup in clear jars that look so delicious how could you not buy one even in sunny Southern California? Sells for $9.9 for a 32-ounce jar. Yum!
Mother’s own fresh ground peanut butter. Sitting right next to the $9.99 (sale) price of Justin’s almond honey butter is Mother’s own freshly ground peanut butter—for half the price (granted, it’s peanut rather than almond), selling at $4.99 for a 16-ounce container.
Sitting amid the stalwarts of Traditional Medicinals, Yogi, Numi and Celestial Seasonings is this brand that hails from Carlsbad. It sells at a premium price, higher than all the rest—but it looks well worth it, and not just for the local bona fides. Buddha Teas are organic, sometimes wildcrafted, with a mission of “Tea for Trees” by partnering with the National Forest Foundation to plant 50 million trees in national forests. Each box also contains a “caffeine guide” with four levels, from zero to strong. Buddha Teas also features clean ingredients, unbleached tea bags, 100% Kosher, no GMOs, and 100% recycled and recyclable cartons.
Cado Avocado Frozen Dessert. Keto is king these days, and every keto enthusiast eats avocados like they’re going out of style. This avocado ice cream features organic avocado puree and avocado oil as its first two ingredients. It’s soy free, gluten free and vegan. At $6.99 a pint, it is a premium over Ben & Jerry’s.
Happy Campers Hemp Hemp Hooray! Ancient Grain Bread. Hemp is more than CBD, in case you did not know. This is certified gluten free, plus allergy friendly, with a solid quotient of fiber and protein; oh and it’s USDA organic as well. Price is $7.99 a loaf.
Carla Lee’s Nut Balls. This plant-based meat alternative features nuts from sources that are 100% vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free, and free of soy, MSG and protein isolate. And it’s local—the company, like Mother’s, hails from the O.C. as well. Among other mission metrics, the company donates a portion of net profits to “feeding hungry hearts and tummies” and is also committed to the new triple-win benevolent enterprise model.
Coconut Cult Probiotic Coconut Yogurt. In Colorado, we can find Coconut Cult’s massive dose of food-based probiotics (16 strains per jar) only in hipster boutique stores; but here it is in Mother’s! It now comes in four flavors, and a small serving size of 2 tablespoons gets you to 25 billion CFUs of probiotics. Price is $9.99 for 8 ounces.
Dagoba chocolate is about women’s empowerment and yummy chocolate in many forms, from chips to powder to hot chocolate. It sources organic and Rainforest Alliance Certified cacao from small family-owned farms and co-ops in Latin American and Tanzania. Price is $8.49 per package.
Ginger People, for one, is ginger, which is great for digestive problems because of things like stress and bad farming practices. There’s organic minced ginger, organic sushi ginger, organic grated ginger and organic ginger juice. And the Genie Knobs mascot is pretty darn cute, too. Depending on the SKU, price is $3.49 to $4.79.
Clean Cause is a mission-driven brand of USDA organic yerba mate. Almost impossibly, 50% of profits support recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. That’s noble as the summer day is long. And only $2.49 for a pint-sized can of 16 ounces.
This local California company is also a 2020 NEXTY Awards finalist for its single-ingredient fruit strips. Not all kids like all fruit strips, but we don’t know any who don’t love Solely. Only $1.49 for a 12-strip package.
Joyous Organics is a supercool deodorant in cool packaging, from a local California company. Four SKUs come in different scents ($11.99 or $12.79). All-natural, organic and non-GMO ingredients, plus an eco-friendly, biodegradable tube made of paperboard, not plastic.
