A KFF survey in May found that about 12% of Americans have used a GLP-1 agonist.

  • GLP-1 users likely need supplements to make up the calorie deficit they experience from the resulting weight loss.

At the 82nd Golden Globes on Jan. 5, host and comedian Nikki Glaser joked the awards show was “Ozempic’s biggest night.” She was referring to the explosive growth of GLP-1 medications, or semaglutides, such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro, and their prolific use among celebrities.

But it’s not just Hollywood stars who (allegedly!) use these drugs. In a May 2024 survey, health-policy organization KFF found that one in eight Americans has used a GLP-1 agonist. As weight loss research progresses, and the potential for semaglutide drugs widens into more use cases—possibly even treatments for alcohol or drug addiction, as NPR reported in October, citing the journal Addiction—some companies are betting that more consumers will seek supplements to optimize GLP-1 medication effectiveness, promote natural production of the GLP-1 hormone and manage the drug’s negative symptoms.

"GLP-1 drugs are a breakthrough in weight management, however, the resulting calorie deficit can come with some challenges. Fatigue, muscle loss and digestive upset, for instance, are a few of the concerns one can face on their journey,” says Matthew Taylor, senior director of insights, innovation and marketing capabilities at Youtheory. “That's why we designed a line of doctor-formulated vitamins and supplements to help users stay nourished and protect their health as they lose weight."
