Thrive Market, the B Corp certified, mission-driven, online-only natural foods retailer, has unveiled what it says are the highest quality standards in the industry.

The new standards mean that all 5,500 products that Thrive Market carries are free from genetically modified ingredients, artificial flavors, antibiotics, parabens, and synthetic nitrates and nitrites. The standards fall into five categories:

  • Trusted ingredients—USDA Organic when possible; safe, wholesome ingredients otherwise.

  • Ethically sourced—Buyers prioritize brands that follow ethical and humane practices and have been certified as doing so. Seals such as Fair Trade Certified, Global Animal Partnership, Leaping Bunny, Marine Stewardship Council, Aquaculture Stewardship Council and more demonstrate the brands’ commitments.

  • Carbon-neutral shipping—Thrive does not accept products that are shipped by air because that method creates a carbon footprint five times larger than ground shipping does.

  • Planet positive—The retailer’s warehouses are TRUE Certified for Zero Waste. Thrive also focuses on carrying brands and suppliers that use regenerative agriculture and other sustainable practices.

  • Accessible and affordable healthy living—Thrive Market was founded with the mission to make healthy and sustainable living available to everyone. Buyers look for mission-driven partners working to improve and support people and the environment. As a Public Benefit Corporation, Thrive is required by law to balance purpose with profit and care for all of the food industry’s stakeholders.

Because of these standards, which will be applied to Thrive Market’s private-label products as well as branded products, less than 10% of products that try to sell to Thrive Market are accepted.
