Organic India launches Regenerative Organic Certified tulsi supplement

Organic India, an innovative global leader in providing herbal wellness solutions for healthy conscious living, announced today that the company’s flagship herb, tulsi (holy basil), and the farming co-ops where it’s grown are now Regenerative Organic Certified. This revolutionary new label, overseen by the nonprofit Regenerative Organic Alliance, ensures the ingredient is grown with soil health, animal welfare and worker fairness top of mind.

"While we've implemented regenerative organic practices since our inception, incorporating Regenerative Organic Certified, in addition to our USDA Organic and Fairtrade Certified label, signifies our commitment to transparency and authenticity,” says Marisa Merola, brand partnerships and sustainability manager at Organic India USA. “The ROC certification directly on our packaging adds a level of transparency and verification to our regeneratively grown herbs cultivated by our farmer partners throughout India.

“Tulsi Original herbal tea and Tulsi supplement will be the first of our products to hit the shelves with the Regenerative Organic Certified seal. Organic India has been a supporter of the Regenerative Organic Alliance as a corporate ally since 2021. We are committed to scaling our certified herb supply in order to grow with the movement,” Merola continued. Organic India USA is based in Boulder, Colorado.

“Organic India started as a grassroots organic movement in 1997 and continues to lead the way by pushing the boundaries of environmental standards that have brought the company to where it is today,” says Kat Wiranowski, Organic India’s marketing director. “We’re so proud to have received recognition from Regenerative Organic Alliance, Fairtrade America and B-Corp, and earned certifications around our sustainable business practices, providing additional layers of trust, accountability and authenticity for our consumers. These rigorous social, economic and environmental certifications reflect our steadfast commitment to our founders’ vision of a fully sustainable future.”

Patagonia, Dr. Bronner's, and the Rodale Institute launched The Regenerative Organic Certified standard in 2019 to set the world's highest bar for the way food and fiber are grown. The certification builds on existing USDA Organic and fairtrade standards in agriculture, as well as requirements for healthy soil and farmworker and animal-welfare practices. The organization certifies farms, ranches and grower groups, and licenses companies who use ROC ingredients in their products. In addition, the standard assures consumers their purchase of Regenerative Organic Certified products makes a positive impact at every level: environmental, ethical and social. To earn certification, farmers and brands must first be USDA Organic Certified.

"We are pleased that Organic India has joined more than 100 brands in recognizing the critical need for regenerative organic agriculture," said Elizabeth Whitlow, executive director of Regenerative Organic Alliance. "This is a massive step forward for the tea and supplement industry, and our expectation is that other brands in the category will follow suit by taking the steps to become Regenerative Organic Certified. We envision a thriving future through regenerative organic agriculture that heals our damaged planet and repairs our broken food system.”
