Back To The Roots Organic Stoneground Bites Nearly every new launch from conscious company Back To The Roots has us floored. Look! They made a home aquaculture kit! They’re sourcing Demeter Certified ingredients for cereal! These new snackables, packed with allergen-friendly and protein-dense sunflower butter, feature identity-preserved ingredients like stone-ground wheat. Available in three delectable flavors perfect for tossing into lunch boxes: Maple Cinnamon, Pacific Sea Salt and Chocolate. Farmhouse Culture Fermented Veggies The fermentation trend is in full swing as consumers continue to seek healthful probiotics for gut health. These tangy, USDA Organic and vegan veggies make it easy to incorporate more fermented foods into salads and dishes. Our favorites: The Curry Cauliflower, made with cauliflower, cabbage, sea salt, caraway and curry powder, and the Orange Ginger Carrots, pickled with ginger puree and ginger juice for a sweet-spicy-bright flavor.
Purely Elizabeth Wellness Bars Functional mushrooms have not quite broken the supplement-food barrier. While the benefits of mushrooms like reishi, cordyceps and chaga range from stress defense to an immunity boost, mushrooms have mostly appeared in beverages. Purely Elizabeth’s five new organic nutrition bars feature a whopping 2 grams of mushrooms—the recommended dosage—from Om Mushroom Formula. Also gluten-free and surprisingly delicious. Vibrant Health Products Silver Hills Sprouted Power Wheat Breads More often than not, sprouted breads are extremely dense and crumbly—not something you want in a sandwich. Somehow, the master bakers at Silver Hills made a fluffy and soft USDA Organic bread containing 50 percent sprouted whole wheat for an easier-to-digest product. Cultured wheat flour imparts a slight tang to this beautiful, buy-it-every-week sliced bread.
Harmless Harvest Probiotic Coconut Water Like a vegan kefir, this milky beverage from the folks at Harmless Harvest is made with USDA Organic coconut water, coconut meat, cane sugar and live and active cultures, including fermented strains and added GanedenBC30. Available in four smooth, fruity varieties, each bottle contains 12.5 billion CFU and no stabilizers, gums or thickeners. New Barn Organic Almondmilk Original New Barn’s almond milk is a beautiful beverage that will appeal to both vegans and omnivores alike, as most flavors contain just four or five ingredients. The Original flavor, for example, features just organic almonds sourced from Spain, spring water, organic maple syrup, organic acacia gum and sea salt. We dig New Barn’s commitment to transparency—its website is chock-full of ingredient info. Numi Organic Ready-To-Drink Tea Numi’s launch into the bottled tea category had New Hope Network editors in a tizzy of delight. Made in a zero-waste facility, this product surprised us with light sweetness derived from fair trade cane sugar and Numi’s masterful tea blends, including Classic Mint, Black Lemon and more. Also cool: Each USDA Organic bottle costs just a reasonable $1.99.
Doctor D’s Delicious Water Kefir There are many great things that have been said about kefir. “Refreshing” is not one of them. Apparently nobody told Doctor D. We don’t know what medical background the mustachioed character on the label can claim, but the company has found a way to add the probiotic benefits of kefir to a thirst-quenching bubbly water that has the right balance of sweet without wandering into the puckered taste bud territories of kombucha and kefir. Bonafide Provisions Drinkable Veggies Bone broth is savory, satisfying and a paleo favorite, but neither Brooklyn hipsters nor crossfit cavemen can live on protein alone. Mom told you to eat your veggies; Bonafide Provisions tells you to drink them. Though perhaps a bit salty for some, Drinkable Veggies still puts all the functional factors into what could be called the comfort food of the beverage world. Vitox Drinking Vinegar The words “drinking” and “vinegar” started showing up on the same label only recently and still draw many a cringe, at both the concept and the beverage experience itself. It could be that drinking vinegar is an acquired taste that not everybody is eager to acquire, but Vitox has added an unexpected sweetness that might convince the cringers. It turns out pineapple drinking vinegar is something even a skeptic could sip.
I Heart Keenwah Toasted Quinoa Hot Cereal Quick, easy and tasty, this fair trade, organic hot cereal nearly doubles the protein power of oatmeal while supporting traditional quinoa growing and processing in the high-salt flats of Bolivia. Combined with gluten-free whole grain oats and a bit of lucuma fruit for a touch of sweetness (there’s an unsweetened variety, too!) it cooks up creamy and delicious every time. VANA Green Chickpea Superfood Bowl Greens have more fun. These bowls bring chickpeas front and center—but not your typical blonde chickpeas. Instead, Vana serves up green chickpeas, which boast higher protein and fiber in convenient boil-in-the-bag (good for camping!) or microwavable pouches and flavors like chipotle, chimichurri and coconut/lime. We’d like to see organic but are pleased to see non-GMO chickpeas that naturally fix more nitrogen into U.S. soil. Indian Table Pranayums Little packets of synergy, these "super spice" blends belie the simplicity of their ingredient panel, packing a complex, joyfully sweet (but not sweetened!) punch led by the nutritive value of turmeric. It’s a tasty addition to smoothies, hot cereal, nut butters and coffee, or a ready-to-blend instant golden milk (just add milk). Warning: you might be tempted to eat it straight.
RollinGreens Millet Tots Now these are some great grains! These baked millet tots replace the greasy tater tots of school lunch lore and transform an ancient grain from a rice replacement to a delightful dipper. Birthed in a Boulder food truck by a company focused on cleaning up the classics, they're a real success. Sweet Earth Natural Foods Korean Japchae Artisan Bowl Plant-based leader Sweet Earth does it again with this frozen dish that cooks up looking as fresh as it would were it to come from a Korean kitchen. In Japchae tradition, meaning "mixture of vegetables," this bowl features yam noodles, fresh veggies and seitan tossed in a sesame ginger soy sauce. The vegan dish features 8 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber, and it’s organic. LoveTheWild Fish Kits From Colorado—yes, the landlocked state known for its skiing— comes this sustainably sourced seafood dinner kit. LoveTheWild shares the love of seafood by making it easy for consumers to cook with cut fish, tasty sauces and parchment paper ready to prepare with easy instructions. The company, though, exists to preserve waterways with responsible aquaculture. We love the great traceability, too: Each box is labeled with the specific location from which the product was sourced. LoveTheWild is available in four varieties: Barramundi with Mango Sriracha Chutney, Catfish with Cajun Creme, Rainbow Trout with Salsa Verde and the newly launched Striped Bass with Roasted Pepper Almond Sauce.
Wild Zora Meat & Veggie Bars Perhaps you’ve noticed a meat snack or two out there. Among the bars, jerkys, sticks and bites cropping up, we’re excited by Wild Zora’s veggie-spiked, unsweetened varieties. And it’s not just added sugar that’s missing—they are also free of antibiotics, hormones, chemical additives, nuts, gluten, grain, soy, milk and the heartburn-inducing overspice so common in the category. Simply West Coast Bacon Style Salmon There’s just so much to like here. Smoky, bacon-y strips of sustainably sourced, wild-caught salmon spiced up with gluten-free, non-GMO, kosher goodness. The strips cook up tender and deliver not just a lean bacon alternative, but the added umami and (not fishy!) flavor complexity of keta salmon. And at $5 for a half pound pack, it won’t break the fishy bank. Primal Kitchen Collagen Fuel Not just any protein, collagen protein from grass-fed cattle to go right to the joints, muscles, skin and hair. It’ll go straight to the gut, too, but in a good way: First by the gut health-supporting benefits of collagen and, second, because of the hunger-satisfying added fats from coconut milk. It’s all whipped up in a clean label, smoothie-ready powder.
Sweet Earth Natural Foods Mediterranean Veggie Burger Most known for its colorful, globally inspired, veggie-packed frozen bowls, Sweet Earth also makes a mean veggie burger. The Mediterranean Veggie Burger launching this spring is a vibrant and bold patty packed with organic chickpeas, mushrooms, barley, quinoa and more. Each burger packs 12 grams of plant protein and 5 grams of fiber. Myrtle Greens Vegan Jerky The judges were impressed with the texture and flavor of Myrtle Greens' new vegan jerky made with a non-GMO soy base—although they wished it was made with tamari instead of soy sauce so that it would be gluten-free friendly, too. It comes in classic flavors like Spicy Sriracha, Black Pepper and Sweet Teryaki, and each serving delivers 6 grams of protein.
Opimus Co. Banana Joe Chips Unlike the bulk bin dried banana chips, this fruit snack was made to taste like a proper chip. Banana Joe Chips are handcrafted fresh daily using non-GMO hom tong bananas that provide a superior taste to other varieties. The savory-sweet flavors mimic potato chips and include hickory BBQ, sea salt, Thai sweet chili, sriracha with pickled garlic and Gruyere cheese. Chia Viva! At first, we weren’t sure that chia seeds belong in pudding, but after the first bite, we were surprised how well it works. The texture is actually quite pleasant—an enjoyable dichotomy from the creaminess of the coconut milk and the crunchiness of the chia seed. This dairy-free superfood snack comes in six flavors and is supremely indulgent. Eat Your Coffee Bar Dreamed up by two coffee-deprived college students, Eat Your Coffee Bar provides an alternative delivery method to your daily cup o’ joe. This bar is infused with a full cup of coffee—no synthetic caffeine—and with an SRP of $2.99, this value-packed snack provides a caffeine fix along with nutritious ingredients like dates, almonds, chia, oats and dark chocolate.
Farmhouse Culture Kraut Krisps Kraut kings Farmhouse Culture bring us a chip with the delicious taste and beneficial function of sauerkraut. Rich in a plant-based probiotic blend, these tangy tortilla chips are great for when you’re craving a salty snack. We’ll gladly accept this organic, non-GMO, gut-friendly replacement for the traditional salt and vinegar potato chip. Burma Love Natural Foods Company Lotus Chips Have you ever had a lotus root chip? Neither had we. Burma Love Natural Foods Company is the exclusive supplier to the popular Burma Superstar restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area and has been bringing the taste of Burma to the U.S. since 1992. These addictive crunchy chips are seasoned with roasted seaweed, sesame seeds, sea salt and cayenne. The Wine RayZyn Company Wine RayZyns You can think of these as adult raisins. The CabernayZyn is a crunchy superfood snack made from dried Cabernet wine grapes harvested in California. Like a good Cab, this high-fiber snack possesses complex flavors like blackberry, fig and currant, but boasts more antioxidants than wine. Also, the patent-pending drying process allows the nutrients in the grape seeds to be more bioavailable.
Canyon Bakehouse Heritage Style Gluten-Free Bread In January, Canyon Bakehouse launched its first deli-sized gluten-free bread. With a careful dedication to recipe innovation, the company has solved a challenging puzzle in gluten-free baking—going BIG. Available in two delicious flavors, this non-GMO, whole grain and clean ingredient label bread tastes as big and bold as it looks. Good Karma Foods Dairy Free Yogurt Good Karma Dairy Free Yogurts deliver 5 to 6 grams of plant-based protein, 800 mg of omega-3 healthy fats and seven live and active cultures. Delivering a flax-based alternative with form and function, Good Karma is nutritious, free of all major allergens and a great example of snacking innovation. Nutiva Buttery Coconut Oil Nutiva Buttery Coconut Oil, with its bold, beautiful yellow hue, speaks from the shelf. This love-at-first-sight product story inspires, innovates and overflows with integrity. Its vegan "buttery" flavor is concocted from certified organic non-GMO plants including sunflower, coconut and mint. The end result? Pure "buttery" goodness backed by responsible sourcing.
Know Brainer Know Brainer, the thinker’s creamer, is an on-the-go alternative to traditional butter creamer. Filled with MCT oil, organic grass-fed ghee and zero sugar added, these single-serve sachets pack a mighty metabolic punch. This product nestles nicely into your coffee cup for a no-frustration, no frills, innovative solution to supporting ketosis in the body. Siete Family Foods Grain Free Tortilla Chips Siete's Grain Free Tortilla Chips are free of corn, wheat, rice, beans, soy and dairy. Made from cassava flour, avocado oil, chia seeds and other real food ingredients, this product is an impressive alternative to traditional corn chips. These richly flavored, vibrantly packaged chips proved hard to stop eating—or admiring.
Primal Kitchen Egg-Free Mayo The inclusion of algae oil in this new 100 percent egg-free mayo from Primal Kitchen is what caught our eye. Made with a blend of monounsaturated avocado oil and ocean-supporting algae oil, this mayo spread is tangy and full of good-for-you fats. Algae oil is among the most sustainable sources of oil and requires very little land or water to produce. We applaud Primal Kitchen’s impeccable, quality ingredient sourcing. Burma Love Natural Foods Company Fermented Tea Leaf Aioli If you’ve dined in San Francisco, chances are you’ve heard of (or tasted) the award-winning Fermented Tea Leaf Salad from Burma Superstar restaurants. The cult following of those salads is what led to the creation of Burma Love Natural Foods Company and its signature laphet (fermented tea leaves) condiment. We love everything this company creates, including its brand new Fermented Tea Leaf Aioli, as well as the fact that the tea leaves are sourced from Burma, where the company has partnered with a farming co-op and offers farmers fair wages while teaching them about organic farming practices.
Sue’s Organics Nutritional Feast Dipping Sauce We’re enamored with the possibilities of this uniquely flavored savory dipping sauce made from organic sunflower oil, soymilk, apple cider vinegar, nutritional yeast, tamari and spices. The vegan, gluten-spread is just as delicious on sandwiches and crackers as it is stirred into steamed veggies or pasta. We also enjoyed Sue’s Organics tahini, curry and ginger miso sauce. The Maple Guild Organic Maple Vinegar Most maple syrup producers take the sap runs at the end of the year to make Grade B syrup: a dark, overcooked, lower-quality product. Not so at the Maple Guild, where passion for the community and the woods drives innovation. The team uses the sap leftover after the fleeting season of Grade A Amber maple syrup production and turn it into sweet and tangy maple vinegar, plus a whole slew of interesting maple-infused products. We love their commitment to creating jobs in Vermont by extending the production cycle and amount of SKUs that come from one resource.
Miss Jones Baking Co. Organic Frostings Miss Jones Baking Co. fills a market need with its line of frostings made with organic ingredients. We love how the coloring in the confetti pop sprinkles is made from natural ingredients like beetroot and spirulina. With enough delicious frosting for one cake or 18 cupcakes, the price point is also appetizing at just $5.99. GoodPop Organic Freezer Pops GoodPop’s all-natural frozen popsicles are a refreshing summertime treat free of refined sugars, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial colors and flavors. Simple and healthy, they come in nostalgic flavors like orange cream as well as exciting flavor combinations like hibiscus mint. We love that GoodPop is a company dedicated to doing good by partnering with countless nonprofits.
Coolhaus Ice Cream Pints Coolhaus oozes creativity with its architecture-themed ice cream flavors like Balsamic Fig & Mascarpone, aka "Eric Owen Moss-Carpone." Its rich, mouth-watering cold treats are made with hormone-free dairy and natural ingredients. We especially admire the company’s commitment to sustainability and use of local ingredients in its unique creations. Hail Merry 2-Count Cups Hail Merry’s bite-sized tarts are the perfect little dessert—vegan, paleo-friendly, free of dairy, gluten and GMOs, with some of the cleanest ingredient lists we’ve seen. The treats contain only plant-based, energizing "good fats." We love that this women-owned company is dedicated to making raw treats that taste great and don’t exclude those with dietary restrictions.

Natural Factors CurcuminRich Optimizers Curcumin innovation is all the rage, as well it should be—the large molecule is tough to absorb and leaves the body all too quickly. Factors’ branded curcumin, called Theracurmin, is up to 30 times better absorbed compared to commodity curcumin. The Optimizer line then smartly deploys other key nutrients that support the brain, joints or the heart. Oregon’s Wild Harvest Biodynamic Herbal Tonics Chronic stress is a right-to-win area for supplements because it’s not a disease state (only drugs can make disease claims) but rather just a lifestyle problem. Employing authentic biodynamic practices ensures the power of the plant is in every tincture release. Gaia Herbs Adrenal Health Adrenal fatigue is the latest stress-based, lifestyle health issue gripping the nation. This trio of carefully blended botanical formulations are designed to first get you off the ledge short-term, then help the body recover at night, and then maintain your re-balanced state of homeostasis.

UpSpring Milkflow Fenugreek + Blessed Thistle Chocolate Supplement Drink Milkflow hits a high note in an underserved category. Milkflow addresses this in an easy-to-mix botanical formula, convenient for mothers to mix filled with quality ingredients that new moms can feel good about. Milkflow is economical, at about 75 cents per serving ($14.99 per box), and we think the product offers an opportunity for retailers to round out their post-natal merchandise set while offering healthful quality support for new moms.

Kuju Coffee also sources its beans from a farm that employs former sex trafficked victims and donates 1 percent of its sales to the National Park Foundation. Ethical Bean Coffee 100% Compostable Pods The Keurig is a boon for convenience-craving consumers but a bummer for our landfills. Ethical Bean is helping nudge those consumers a step in the right direction with its fully compostable single-serve coffee pods made from coffee bean chaff and other renewable materials. They encapsulate the company’s fair trade, certified organic coffee and can be thrown right in the green bin after use.
10th Avenue Tea Our judges loved how 10th Avenue Tea’s salt shaker-like packaging stands out on the shelf among boxes and tins and eliminates the use of tea bags. Each recyclable shaker bottle contains 45 to 60 servings of instant tea powder made from matcha or black tea extract. Just shake it into a mug, pour hot or iced water over it, and drink. The Chicago-based company was founded by two "tea-loving, tree-hugging entrepreneurial moms." Chameleon Cold-Brew Bag in Box Black Concentrate Boxed hot coffee is a thing, so why not boxed cold-brew? LoveTheWild Fish Kits Each LoveTheWild Fish Kit touts the "sustainable and traceable" differentiator across the packaging to provide the much-needed visibility into a typically "murky" industry. The packaging showcases a "Where is this fish from?" section that notes which farm, pen and lot number the individual fish came from so you can enjoy and trust this ethically sourced meal kit. Open Farm Pet Food Open Farm Pet Food highlights transparency in its supply chain to further its mission to produce healthy pet food. Each unit is equipped with a lot number for the consumer to look up on the Open Farm website. The lot number report will show where each ingredient was sourced and the third-party lab results of each individual bag. Chameleon Cold-Brew Single Origin, Mexico Chiapas Coffee Beans We love the marriage of mission and transparency that Chameleon Cold Brew has forged for its Single Origin, Mexico Chiapas Coffee Beans. The region of Chiapas succumbed to Roya, a plant disease that causes coffee leaf rust. These beans support a farming community dedicated to planning varietals to resist Roya and to use as a source of income until the coffee plants are ready to be harvested.
