Thirty years after the founding and fantastic success story of Burt's Bees, the company wants to give other entrepreneurs the same chance to flourish, to share their ideas—humble or grand—with the world. The company has introduced Natural Launchpad, an annual grant program for the up-and-coming thinkers, the dreamers, the midnight-oil-burning innovators. The USDA recently announced that it is making $30 million available to farmers, ranchers and food entrepreneurs to develop new product lines. Funding will be made available through the Value-Added Producer Grant program. "Farmers and ranchers are creative people who, with a little help, can put that creativity to work and improve the bottom line for their operations," said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsak. "Value-Added Producer Grants enable them to develop new product lines to grow their businesses and expand their contributions to our nation's economy." Click to learn more
Gardens for Good is an annual grant program which awards three $15,000 grants to community gardens in Canada and the USA. Previous winners have included Everett Community Growers, who have been building community garden spaces from vacant lots since 2010.
