Healthy Food Does Not Taste Like Cardboard

In a 2006 marketing campaign to prove that "good-for-you" doesn't mean "tastes like cardboard," Jeff Grogg declared he'd eat the cardboard packaging if tasters didn't like Kashi's Trail Mix Granola Bar. Needless to say, Jeff was not only pleased that poll-takers did like the granola bar, but also that he did not have to consume the marinating cardboard container.

Jeff Grogg is the Director of Research and Development at Kashi, where he has been active in the growth and expansion of the Natural Health portfolio including Kashi, Stretch Island, and the recently acquired Bear Naked. The Kashi Company was created in 1984 with the heartfelt belief that making a positive change is easier if you have someone to share it with. In fact, anyone can join the Kashi online community to get daily inspiration and be a part of the group's overall growing success. Before joining Kashi in 2000, when it was purchased by Kellogg Co. Jeff led R&D for Kellogg's Health and Wellness business, launching Special K2O protein waters and bars, and the All-Bran fiber stick.

The Future of Healthy Foods
17 years of experience with both Kellogg's and Kashi have given Jeff insight into how functional food ideas can move from blue sky to market shelf, as well as predicting which nutritional areas will motivate consumers in the future. Jeff, along with Dr. Laryn Calloway, will present "The Future of Organic Foods: The Picture in 2020" at the Healthy Foods Conference on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 in Boston. Laryn is a practicing naturopathic physician, accomplished organic chef, and founder of Organic Bistro.

Just for good measure...
Jeff requests, "The materials in our boxes might be full of fiber, but the FDA has approved them for packaging - not for eating. So don't try this at home."
