Spring 2002

Pharmacists' New Best Friend
Nutrition Science News is new for 2002. In our seventh year of publication, NSN is now being sent exclusively to pharmacists each quarter. The reason is that the mainstreaming of dietary supplements will most likely take place through the public's most trusted professionals—pharmacists.

For many pharmacists, the great concern relating to dietary supplements is education. For too many, a day's work of filling out endless prescriptions leaves little time to stay current on all the information that your customers keep asking you about. This is where NSN can be a useful tool.

For starters, the continuing education module in each issue now costs you nothing to send in, and for which you still receive CE credits.

Plus, NSN strives to supply you with the science behind supplements. This is critical as you help customers find the products that will be most beneficial for their health and well-being. Toward that end, NSN always features referenced editorial content, including in this issue an insightful column on ginseng (Panax spp.). Learn about this herb's new clinically validated health claims in "Doctor's Insight."

In the "Natural News" department, we've chosen two pieces on companies whose products have been used in clinical research trials with positive results. This news will help you share with customers information about specific products that pertain to prostate and blood pressure health.

Our "At the Counter" column answers pertinent questions that your customers may already be asking you.

Let us know what you think of the issue.

Homeopathic Medicine

Although few scientists and physicians understand the power of nanopharmacology, growing evidence documents homeopathy's potential for treating numerous health conditions, including respiratory allergies. The American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists warns, however, that it is not appropriate for treating infectious diseases, such as anthrax.
