Q & A: Find community at Expo East

Q: What are you doing to foster a feeling of community at Natural Products Expo East?
A: To provide more gathering places, we’ve added meeting rooms in the closest-located hotels. When it comes to events, we’ve tried to reflect the interests and creativity of our exhibitors and partners. For instance, The Organic Farming Research Foundation will join Farm Aid to present A New England Dinner with Organic Family Farmers on Wednesday, Oct. 13, to benefit both organizations. Organic-minded guests can also tap into their community at the Organic Summit and the All Things Organic trade shows now also at Expo East.

Q: Will there be any education programming that serves the niche
communities that Expo East attracts?
A: Yes, our education is broken up into tracks this year to make it simple for attendees to find sessions that address their unique business needs. In addition to these general sessions, two paid workshops offer an even more in-depth view into the business of natural products. The retailer workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, has been an extremely popular training program for managers, buyers and store owners, and will return for its fifth year.

Q: What would you say is this show’s not-to-be-missed event?
A: This year’s Oktoberfest-themed event will be at the Westin hotel next door to the convention center on Thursday evening, Oct. 14—right after the show floor closes. The Westin is always a great place to network in the evenings, but this year’s party will provide some fun ways to meet new contacts over a beer stein and traditional German fare.
