3 hacks for attracting local shoppers on social media

In the social media world today, there are few brands and people who can create an account and be instantly followed. Speed up the process of being found—online and offline—with these three hacks for attracting engaged users who may turn into loyal shoppers.

Increase your reach by proactively following local influencers.

Use Crowdfire to locate active people on Twitter or Instagram who might be interested in shopping at your store. Once you connect your Twitter or Instagram account on Crowdfire (free, with upgrade options), choose the option “Copy Followers.” Search for a username of another business/person who has followers you’d like to reach. The displayed list shows their most active followers, so you can easily begin making new connections with influential members of your community.

Create a local awareness Facebook ad campaign.

Facebook Ads are constantly evolving to give marketers better and more targeted options for reaching potential customers. When you create a new ad in Facebook Ads Manager, try selecting the “Reach people near your business” campaign objective. It allows you to target select ages and genders within a custom mile radius of your business.

For as little as $40, I have run campaigns that have reached 10,000 people within a 3-mile radius of a local business. Ensure your ad language and images are compelling and offer a clear call to action and you’ve potentially won yourself new customers on a cheap marketing budget.

Get in the giveaway game.

Giveaways have been a marketing staple since well before social media, but thanks to new online tools running a giveaway is now hassle-free. A key factor in running a giveaway is obtaining a person’s email address—not only to fulfill the prize, but also for follow-up marketing.

To do this, move your giveaways off your Facebook Page and onto your website with KingSumo Giveaways for Wordpress. If your website runs with Wordpress, this plugin will cost you a one-time fee of about $200 for lifetime use. Once you set up the giveaway landing page, you can easily share a link on all your social media platforms to collect emails and run the giveaway. Giveaways can include coupons, ebooks or books, products and gift certificates from you or partnering local businesses.
